Planning Commission hearing June 9
The most talked-about building in town may get a facelift and a new look, before it evens opens to the public.
The two-story building at the corner of North and Center streets, with a group of rusted metal rooftop structures, was designed by architect Alan Cohen and is owned by the Seghesio family.
It was designed to evoke classic old Healdsburg buildings, with an Italian influence.
When the building was leased to Kyle and Katina Connaughton and their Single Thread restaurant, new ideas emerged about the look.
The Healdsburg Planning Commission is being asked to approve a new color scheme, a restrained mix of gray and white, with more planters, dark gray awnings, and painted steel columns that would replace the salvaged metal columns that stand out front now.
Cohen said that the proposal includes more structures on the roof, including a shade pergola, a portable greenhouse and plantings that would hang over the edge and soften the look of the parapet.
The proposed use would not change, just the appearance.
The commission will review the proposal on Tuesday, June 9 at 6 p.m. at Healdsburg City Hall.
