Healdsburg Center for the Arts, the 29-year-old nonprofit focused on arts and art education in the Healdsburg community, announced the subject of its next exhibit will be “Beauty in the Beasts,” to open for viewing on Aug. 17.

But first they’re soliciting artwork in any medium for the exhibit, which recognizes “creatures from the largest mammal, the blue whale, to the smallest organisms, and even living beings from our imaginations… that enhance and enrich our experience here on Earth.”

A tall order, and from now until July 30 HCA will be accepting applications for the show. “This show is calling on all fine artists to share with us your vision of creatures, great, small, real or fantastical, in your favorite medium,” continues the website invitation.

The artwork can be submitted through the organization’s website at healdsburgcenterforthearts.org. Notification of juried results will be made on Aug. 2.

The Healdsburg Center for the Arts’ storefront moved from Plaza Street to 334 Center St. in 2021, which gives the gallery more accessibility to foot traffic and better sales, said board member David Howard.

Applications are also being solicited for the HCA’s big annual event, the Healdsburg Arts Festival, to take place in the Plaza Aug. 26–28. That event is planned to include food and music, as well as arts and crafts.

The gallery is currently showing entries from the Emerging Artists competition, which opened on July 7 and will run until Aug. 14. Their hours are usually 11am–5pm Thursdays through Mondays, and till 6 on Fridays and Saturdays.
