The Sebastopol Little League Junior division baseball all-stars completed arguably the best run in Sebastopol Little League history this week, advancing to the Section 1 tournament championship round before falling to Oakland in two straight games.
Just a few days removed from winning the District 35 title, Sebastopol opened the Section 1 tourney hosted by Rincon Valley with a 17-2 rout over Vacaville.  The locals were in the driver’s seat in the tournament after pulling out an 18-17 barnburner over Oakland, needing to lose twice to be eliminated.
That’s just what happened in the championship round, as Oakland bounced back to beat Sebastopol in back-to-back games (12-2 and 12-7) to capture the section title.
“What a wild ride this entire series has been but I suppose that is half the fun of it,” said SLL Juniors manager JP Merlaud. “I think with each game, emotions and tensions grew for the players of all teams, which is why we saw so many awesome plays and equally as many routine mishaps.  That said, I’m proud of our team for its perseverance and never giving in.”
