Sebastopol Gallery will feature the work of member and guest artists each month in the windows as part of the gallery’s 10-year-anniversary celebration. For September, work by member artist James Reynolds will be in the north window. Guest artist Stacey Schuett’s work continues in the south window until September 24, when member artist Jeremy Joan Hewes displays her featured exhibit “Let’s Talk About Trees.”
Jeremy’s mixed-media works often include trees. “A patch of woods is like home to me,” Jeremy says. “I grew up wandering deciduous woodlands in Ohio and now embrace the oaks and conifers of Sonoma County, with its year-round green.” She adds, “My work celebrates trees for their beauty and their crucial role in our environmental future.”
Jeremy usually combines her photographs – of trees up close and in the landscape – with her acrylic paintings on paper or canvas or with handmade papers from a variety of places. By printing a photograph on very thin paper and collaging that to another paper or canvas, she creates pieces in which the images combine and the foreground and background interact.
The featured show “Let’s Talk About Trees” continues through November 26. Meet Jeremy and other member artists at the reception on Saturday October 7 from 4 to 6 p.m.
