The Seal Watch program need docents to work weekends at Goat
Rock State Beach to assist park visitors in observing the harbor
seals. The program runs from March until the end of August to
ensure a peaceful pupping season for the harbor seal colony located
at the mouth of the Russian River. Training for docents will take
place on Saturday, Feb. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Jenner
Community Center. For more information about the program, call

Fish hatchery’s public tours
The Russian River steelhead run has begun and the public is
invited to watch steelhead trout arrive at the Congressman Don
Clausen Fish Hatchery at Lake Sonoma. Ranger-led tours will be
provided at no cost, beginning at 10 a..m. each weekend starting
Jan. 8 and running through March 27. The tours follow the
steelheads’ progress from Dry Creek, through the hatchery spawning
process, and then release back into Dry Creek. Call the Milt Brandt
Visitor Center at Lake Sonoma, 433-9483 x27, to R.S.V.P. for a
tour. The tours are limited to 20 participants each day.
