Susan Leibovitz Steinman's “Cartwheels”

Susan Leibovitz Steinman from Oakland has a sculpture on the Geyserville Sculpture Trail. “Cartwheels” is created out of a salvaged grocery cart, bicycle wheels, pipe clamps, river stones and metal mesh. It seems to be precariously balanced, yet is not and speaks of limited, conflicted mobility. The cart filled with river stones gives it balance and weight, securing it in place. It’s a loose metaphor for the importance of nature in securing a balanced center for everyone in modern life.
This unique sculpture, sponsored by Steve and Nancy Oliver is 12 feet high by 12 feet wide by 6 feet deep and is located on Geyserville Avenue near Merrill Street.
Susan is a social sculptor specializing in ecological and social justice issue art. She is known and respected internationally for her years working in the public realm from Oakland to Appalachia, Korea and Germany. Susan has  worked with communities to install large scale public installations to enhance local pride, ecological health, social and economic well-being.
