Scott Walter Bean, 39, passed away of an apparent heart attack
on Sunday, March 6, 2005 at his home in Clifton Forge, Virginia.
Scott was the Pastor of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church at
the time of his death. He was born in Santa Rosa on September 8,
1965, to Wesley (Bill) and Patricia Bean of Healdsburg. He was a
graduate of Healdsburg High School and Santa Rosa Junior College
before graduating from Whitmore Presbyterian College in Spokane,
Washington and later Dubuque University. He was a student pastor in
Galina, Illinois and served as Associate Pastor at Kirkwood
Presbyterian Church in Springfield, Virginia before being called to
Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church. He was active in the Clifton
Forge community serving on the Main Street Clifton Forge
Association and in the Alleghany Highlands Arts and Crafts Center.
He was an associate member of the Clifton Forge Fire Department and
was the current Chaplain of the Virginia State Firemen’s
Association. Scott was a scholar in every sense of the word. He
loved history, was politically astute, was an avid reader, loved to
cook, appreciated the arts, and enjoyed a good laugh. He loved the
Lord and demonstrated this early on when he was asked to deliver
the sermon on the annual Youth Sunday service at the Healdsburg
Federated Church. In high school, he played tuba in the concert
band, and was selected to attend the California Boys’ State
Convention in Sacramento. Scott exhibited compassion and a love for
people and received the Ethel Marie Oakleaf Scholarship presented
to students who most exhibit humanitarianism. In addition to his
parents, he is survived by a brother and sister-in-law Kevin and
Janine Redwine Bean of Eureka, and by a host of aunts, uncles and
cousins. He will be greatly missed by his church family and by many
friends. A memorial service is planned for Sunday, March 20, 2005,
at 2 p.m. at Healdsburg Community Church, 1100 University Avenue.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a gift in memory of Scott
be made to the Rafiki Foundation, Building Fund. Donations may be
sent to, or left at, the church.
