Editor: Two weeks ago you published two letters in your column
about the concerns of citizens’ feelings for the proposed
destruction of Memorial bridge. I second both letters! As Mr. Amato
so stated at the Healdsburg city council meeting when he presented
the case for rehabilitating the bridge rather then tearing it down,
“The bridge is the gateway to Healdsburg.” He also explained that
Cal Trans had made mistakes in their calculations on the safety and
stability of the bridge. Why, when the town wants to attract
tourists because of its’ small town feeling, would a flat, ugly
concrete span add anything but speed and tension to the people
coming into town?
Please save and preserve this wonderful bridge and graceful palm
trees that line the street- it is the true entrance to
Healdsburg.
