Sandra Stewart passed away peacefully at her home in Cloverdale on July 27, 2018, with her family by her side after a short battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her husband John of 46 years. Sandra is survived by her children, Greg, Gary (Lacey), Kathy (Frank) and Steve (Karen), her 10 grandchildren, Sarah, Amy, Adam, Grayson, Jackson, Ian, Geoffrey, Madison, Karsyn and Bailey, and 15 great grandchildren.
Sandra was born on July 24, 1944, in Modesto California. She grew up as a tomboy running track, climbing trees and playing sports. She was the 4th grade tetherball champion of her entire elementary school.
At age 17, she met John, the love of her life, and they were married soon after. They moved to Sonoma County in 1968 and eventually settled in Cloverdale where Sandra dedicated her life to raising her children.
Sandra loved to camp and fish. While the kids were young, the family would go fishing at Clear Lake almost every weekend. The family loved to spend the Easter holiday camping at Lake McSwain. After the kids grew up, she loved going to Yorty Creek with her cane pole to fish.
Sandra worked at Jefferson Elementary School for over 35 years as a classroom aide and touched many childrens lives. As a classroom aide, Sandra would often tell stories about work and the funny things that kids said and did. She would often say she could write a book.
Sandra had a love for pizza, shrimp and frogs and disliked chicken with a passion. She enjoyed playing Bingo, having lunch with the Lunch Bunch, going to rummage sales, volunteering at the Cloverdale Senior Center and the Cloverdale Food Bank. Sandra was an avid reader. She would usually wake up and start reading at about 4 a m.
Sandra was a kind and loveable person with a great sense of humor. She will always be remembered for her charm necklace she wore everyday displaying the love she had for her family. Whenever someone told her they loved her, she would always respond with: LOVE YA MORE!
Sandra wasn’t afraid of dying after a childbirth incident with Greg and she said it was the most peaceful thing that she had ever experienced. So with that in mind, go in peace, Sandra, and be forever in our hearts.
A celebration of Sandra’s life will take place on Saturday, August 18th, at the Cloverdale High School East Gym at 11 a.m. All are welcome to attend.
