Analy junior Sierra Atkins shatters school mark in 1,600 Meters
Preparation and talent spelled peak performance on May 25-26 at Berkeley’s venerable Edwards Stadium, site of the prestigious North Coast Section Meet of Champions and the final qualifier for athletes with California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) track and field aspirations.
The two-day event included preliminary races on Friday and finals on Saturday. The top three finishers in each event advanced to compete at the CIF State Track & Field Championships on June 1-2 in Clovis.
Leading the charge for Analy at the MOC were Sierra Atkins (5th place 1,600 Meters, 4:58.03), Maddie Windsor (13th place 400 Meters, 59.98), Margaux Jame (13th place 100 High Hurdles, 16.34), Bennett Simpson (20th place 100 Meters, 11.29, 15th place 200 Meters, 22.97), Ethan DelMonte (11th place Pole Vault, 13’ 1”) and Alec Dierke (18th place 800 Meters, 1:59.73). 
Atkins’ performance in the 1,600 Meter final on Saturday was among the best from Redwood Empire runners. Her time of 4:58.03 shattered the Analy school record of 5:01.33 set in 1985 by Sherri Minkler. 
In addition, the Analy girls 4 x 400 Meter Relay team of Gabrielle Dahlen, Sierra Atkins, Margaux Jame and Maddie Windsor captured 14th place overall in a fast 4:09.60.
Representing El Molino were Jack Fricker (8th place 300 Hurdles, 40.95, 14th place 110 High Hurdles, 16.00, 12th place Triple Jump, 42’ 6”), Clay Serrano (19th place 300 Hurdles, 43.12), Austin Kelsey (16th place Shot Put, 43’ 7”, 20th place Discus, 125’ 2”), Lily Krauss (21st place Shot Put, 29’ 10”), Sara Flores (9th place Discus, 120’ 5”) and Kassidy Sani (Discus).
