Windsor High School track and field athletes continued to prep for the upcoming North Bay League season last weekend, splitting the squad in a pair of area meets.
The Jaguars sent a small contingent of runners to the annual Dublin Distance Fiesta on March 16, while their jumpers and throwers stayed closer to home in a meet at Santa Rosa High School.
The real story for both meets may have been the weather, with Windsor athletes greeted by sunny skies and warm temperatures.
“It was great to compete under blue skies,” Jag’s coach Brandon Bronzan reported. “The Dublin Distance Fiesta is the largest distance-only meet in the U.S. and our runners took the opportunity to record 10 personal records in the 1,600 and two more in the 800 meters.”
Among the many highlights from the meet came from senior middle-distance standout Vince Corday, who logged a personal best 1:59.03 in the 800 meters. The clocking was just two seconds away from a school record. Also turning in a great performance was senior WHS record-holder Lucas Chung, who blistered the 1,600-meter track in a season-best 4:26. In addition, sophomore Landon McAllister eclipsed the five-minute mark for the first time in the 1,600 with a clocking of 4:56.
Windsor also had its share of great efforts at the Santa Rosa Throwers/Jumpers meet, with junior Riley West winning both the junior varsity discus and shot put. Freshman Ella Daniel also logged a good effort with a third-place finish in the high jump at 4’ 10”.
