Windsor athletes moving on to NCS REQ on Saturday
Outstanding performances and tough competition were the rule at North Bay League Track & Field Championships hosted by Santa Rosa High School on May 10-12 as the Running Jaguars turned in a strong collective effort.
The meet was split into two days of competition, with varsity preliminaries held on Wednesday and the varsity finals contested on Friday.
The goal for most participants at the NBL Championships was a top-six finish, good for advancement to the North Coast Section Redwood Empire Qualifier meet to be held this Saturday, May 20 at Redwood High School in Larkspur (10 a.m.).
Windsor qualified some 16 athletes in 20 events to the NCS REQ, the next stop on the road to the state meet.
Paving the way for the varsity boys was senior Ruben Mehler, who dominated the throwing events with a win in both the shot put and discus. Veteran standout Maddie Call continued to lead the varsity girls with talent and courage, shaking off a sprained neck with a pair of top-three finishes in the 100- and 300-meter hurdle events. Other NCS qualifiers are Jayda Pignataro (4th in 800 meters, 6th in 400 meters), Amber Balogh (6th in 100, 200 meters), Ellie Pool (6th in high jump) and Erin O’Mara (6th in 3,200 meters). In addition, both relay teams finished third and are moving on to the NCS REQ.
