Senior Lucas Chung shatters school record; varsity boys, girls teams unbeaten at 3-0
League realignment has been good for the Windsor High School cross country team, pushing their varsity boys and girls records to 3-0 with an Oct. 16 sweep over visiting Elsie Allen.
The boys swept the first four spots to win 17-40, while the girls captured the top five places to defeat the Lobos, who failed to field a complete team.
Competing on the Jaguar’s 5-kilometer Foothill Park home course, the Windsor boys were led by senior star Lucas Chung, who crossed the finish line first in a school record, 17:56. His time was also the eighth best all time on the course.
In hot pursuit of Chung were freshman Dustin Smith (2nd place, 19:34), Hunter Larson (3rd place, 19:56), Landon McAlister (4th place, 20:12), Michael Freitas (7th place, 22:04) and Ben Kvamme (9th place, 22:45).
The varsity girls also had their share of outstanding efforts, led by Nataleigh Johnson (1st place, 24:02), Erin O’Mara (2nd place, 24:23), Ava Smith (3rd place, 27:15), Erica Hovland (4th place, 28:15) and Jayda Pignataro (5th place, 28:38).
On Saturday, Windsor sent a small contingent to the 35th annual Mariner Invite, as Chung recorded the sixth best clocking of all time for the 3-mile course in a blazing 14:50.3. Larsen also ran well with a time of 16:11, earning a varsity medal. Dustin Smith captured 4th place in the frosh/soph race with an impressive 16:08, while McAlister was next in sixth place with a time of 16:17.
Chung has been on a record-setting pace, setting a new school record in every race he’s run this year, with most of his marks landing in the top 10 on all-time lists.
