Cross country siblings top the standings
The Windsor High School cross country team enjoyed an impressive 2018 debut at the Rancho Cotate Invitational on Aug. 31, a meet that annually serves as the unofficial start of the fall campaign.
The newly modified 2.72-mile course boasted fast times and solid performances by several WHS veterans, along with spectacular high school debuts by a couple of fresh new faces.
Senior veteran and 2017 state qualifier Lucas Chung was in midseason form, capturing the varsity boys race in a sizzling, 13:50.  Also turning in a strong effort was junior teammate Hunter Larson in 15:13. Other varsity finishers for the Windsor boys were Landon McAlister (16:55) and Michael Freitas (17:06).
“It was a good start to the season for Windsor,” veteran coach Pete Stefanisko reported. “Lucas Chung became the first Windsor runner to win the boys varsity race at the Rancho Invitational and Hunter Larson had a good season debut and should be one of the top runners in our new league.”
Promising freshman Dustin Smith led the Jags in the JV boys race, crossing the finish line in second place overall in a fast 15:40. Other top JV finishers included David Kvamme (17:11), Robert Carrillo (17:52), Ben Kvamme (18:25), Valentino Bugica (18:37), Nathan Beck (18:59), Garrett Melvin (19:08), Tallen Theiss (19:19), Kevin Manni (20:46) and David Cruz (22:47).
