High school cross country
The Jaguars kept their unbeaten streak alive in a North Bay League cross country meet at Rancho Cotate on Oct. 24, easily defeating the Cougars in a varsity sweep.
Despite missing injured senior star Lucas Chung, the varsity boys recorded a perfect 15-40 team win. Freshman phenom Dustin Smith led the way with a winning time of 15:01, closely followed by second to fifth place finishers Hunter Larson (15:22), Landon McAlister (15:36) Michael Freitas (16:28) and freshman Marquez Vigil (16:37).
The varsity girls, also missing injured freshman phenom Lilja Chung, were nearly as good in recording a 19-36 victory. Leading the way for the Lady Jags were race winner Erin O’Mara (18:02), Nataleigh Johnson (2nd place, 18:11), Jayda Pignataro (4th place, 20:15), Ava Smith (5th place, 20:09) and Erika Hovland (7th place, 20:47).
This week, the North Bay League Redwood Division title will likely be decided in a battle of unbeatens on Oct. 31 when Windsor (4-0) visits Analy (4-0) in a dual meet at Ragle Ranch Regional Park in Sebastopol. The first race is 4 p.m.
“We are pretty close when comparing times, so it will be a close race,” Jags coach Pete Stefanisko predicted.
