The Running Jaguars overcame blustery weather conditions and tough competition at the annual North Coast Extravaganza track meet in Santa Rosa on Saturday, an event that featured many of the top athletes in the north bay.
Intermittent rain and a prevailing wind was not enough to deter the team, as Windsor logged an impressive overall performance.
“Saturday was about competing against the elements as much as the other teams,” WHS coach Brandon Bronzan reported. “It was cold, wet and windy, but I was proud of the way we handled the adversity.”
Heading the list of outstanding efforts by the Jaguars was sophomore Emily Johnson, who captured first place in both the triple jump and high jump events, while adding a second-place finish in the long jump.
“She’s an extremely talented jumper and it’s great to see her season off to a great start,” Bronzan noted.
Also turning in great performances were senior Vince Corday, who won three of five events to take first place in the pentathlon and senior Ralph Manalac, who logged third place in the pentathlon.
Other great efforts came from seniors Casey McLaughlin (1st place, long jump) and brother Scott McLaughlin (2nd place 110 high hurdles), while the 4 x 100 Relay team of sophomore Jaden Fernandez, junior Max Sandwina, junior Jake Sievers and senior Sebastian Vasquez logged a third place finish in 47.15.
