Girls' starting line: and they're off...

Paden Collard captures individual boys title
The CHS cross country team traveled to Point Arena on Wednesday, Nov. 8 for the Coastal Mountain Conference Championship race, where they competed among top athletes on a challenging 3.0-mile course along the bluffs of the ocean.

The conditions were less than ideal, with strong winds, cold rain and hail. The girls were first to race, led by junior Julie Edwards (21:51) who finished fifth overall for NCL I. Grisselle Herrera (25:17), Cristina Cardenas (25:37), Eden Winniford (25:39) and Sami Santana (26:05) rounded off the scoring, totaling 88 points and placing the team in fourth for NCL I. Gaby Gaona (27:41) and Sophia Witt (29:17) braved the strong conditions, finishing in sixth and seventh place for the Eagles.
The boys raced last for the day. Sophomore Paden Collard (17:28) finished first among NCL I varsity boys (fourth overall in the NCL I and NCL II combined race). Everett Conway (21:21), Tucker Morgan (22:19), Josefa Sauvou (23:04) and Finn Addison (23:55) were scoring runners as well, bringing the team into fifth place for NCL I (127 points). Miguel Gonzalez (25:16) and Joel Mendoza (25:58) finished sixth and seventh for the eagles.
We are incredibly proud of our Eagles for persevering through these challenging conditions. Our top seven athletes will go on to compete at NCS in Hayward on Saturday, Nov. 18. A big thank you to all who continue to support the Eagles as they finish off their season strong.
