The Cloverdale Eagles hit the trails in their league cross country debut at Middletown High School on Wednesday, Sept. 20, turning in a great overall performance.
The girls started off the day with strong efforts all around. Julie Edwards was the first Cloverdale finisher on the 2.8-mile course, crossing the line in second place overall among varsity runners with a time of 19:45. Rounding out the top Eagles’ finishers were Sami Santana (23:35), Grisselle Herrera (23:42), Eden Winniford (24:52) and Gaby Ganoa (25:50). All returning ladies ran several minutes faster than their previous times from last year — a very impressive feat so early on in the season.
The varsity boys race followed, with Paden Collard going to the front early on. Collard maintained his lead to finish with a new course record time of 15:48, shattering his previous course record.
The rest of the team posted competitive times as well: Everett Conway (18:26), Finn Addison (19:48), Joseffa Sauvou (20:32), Tucker Morgan (20:47), Miguel Gonzalez (22:06) and Alex Visconti (26:09). All returning boys ran personal best times, with a standout improvement from Addison who ran over three minutes faster than his time last year.
The Eagles will be back on the league circuit on Wednesday, Sept. 27 (after press time) in St. Helena. A big thank you to Rick Scaramella, Steve Stewart, Yave Guzman and Joanne Collard for their support last week.
