The Cloverdale High School cross-country team played host to Kelseyville, Fort Bragg and St. Helena in a four-way meet contested on the 3-mile course at Asti Winery on Oct. 14.
The meet pitted Cloverdale against Kelseyville, while Fort Bragg took on St. Helena. Although Kelseyville swept both the varsity boys (45-15) and girls races (26-29), the Eagles logged some breakout performances.
All team members, predominately sophomores, showed a marked improvement over times recorded at their last meet in September. The team was led by Nick Rilea in a time of 21:52 (32 second improvement), Juan Guittierez (1:27), Tyler Wanke (1:02), Everett Conway (1:27), Joel Mendoza (.01) and Derick Rilea (1:49).
Pacing the Lady Eagles was Katie Edwards, who continued to impress with a second place overall finish. Edwards bettered her previous best by a 1:48. Other top performers who shaved time off personal bests were: Grisselle Herrera (.10), Julie Edwards (.48) and Sami Santana (1:49).
On Sunday, Oct. 18, Edwards participated in the 10-kilometer Kiwanis Harvest Club Run, capturing first in her age group, was the fifth female finisher and placed 11th overall.
