The Cloverdale High School cross country team traveled to Martinez for its first race of the season. Athletes completed the hilly 2-mile course at the Ed Sias Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 9. Varsity boys and girls competed against hundreds of athletes in the small school races (Divisions 3-5).
Cloverdale sophomore Paden Collard placed 12th in the varsity boys race with a time of 10:58 and was the sixth fastest sophomore of the day. Clayton Farris (senior) finished second for the Eagles (13:38) with sophomore Finn Addison (13:55) finishing close behind. Freshman Tanner Wanke (15:22) and senior Josefa Sauvou (15:47) rounded out the scoring for the Eagles. Miguel Gonzalez finished his first cross country race with a time of 16:47.
The ladies had a strong start to their season as well. Junior Julie Edwards led the Lady Eagles, placing 32nd (14:08) in the competitive race. The remainder of the scoring runners were Sami Santana (17:46), Eden Winniford (18:34), Cristina Cardenas (18:36) and Grisselle Herrera (18:46). Gaby Ganoa (19:38) and Sophia Witt (21:07) finished their first cross country race in a competitive field.
The Eagles will kick off league competition next Wednesday, September 20 at Middletown High School.
