The Windsor Rotary Club has knocked one out of the park this
spring, as the local organization presented a check in excess of
$13,000 to the Windsor Little League in a pre-game ceremony on
Saturday at Mattie Washburn Field.
The check presentation, made by Windsor Rotary President Leslie
Lewis, was part of $20,000 in total monies earmarked for both the
Windsor Little League and Windsor Youth Softball League,
representing a strong commitment toward the betterment of youth
sports in the community.
Earlier this year, representatives from the Windsor Little
League and Windsor Softball League, along with other local
non-profits and service organizations, made a series of
presentations to the Rotary Club asking for their help.
The Rotary Club stepped up to the plate, as it pledged the
majority of funds raised from the annual crab feed held on March 10
to both youth leagues.
The Windsor Little League will benefit from a donation of
approximately $13,500, which will be used to offset the $21,000
costs of purchasing two new semi-permanent outfield fences and a
new 10 by 12-foot snack shack at Mattie Washburn Field. The
remaining costs are offset by the funds generated by the
overwhelming response of local sponsors this year.
Last year, the Windsor Little League was able to purchase
latticed fencing to cover all four dugouts on both Mattie Washburn
baseball fields, providing much-needed shade during the hot summer
days. Future plans for the fields include a scoreboard and shaded
coverings for the viewing stands.
