Robert Lloyd Snellgrove passed away peacefully in his Cloverdale home January 18, 2017. Bob, as his friends and family knew him, was born in San Francisco on November 11, 1930 to parents Eva Ross Snellgrove and Charles Snellgrove Jr. Robert’s childhood was spent in San Francisco, followed by a brief period in Meadow Vista and then San Anselmo, where he graduated from Tamalpais High School. With his mother’s consent he joined the Marin County Marine Corps Reserve at age 17, trained at Camp Pendelton and served in the Korean War earning the rank of Sargent. He received a Purple Heart and Commendation Metal, combat “V”. He was active in the Sonoma County Marine Corps Reserve until 1969. After the war Robert resided in Rough and Ready working for the U.S. Forestry in the Sierra Nevadas, a period of his life he was particularly proud of. He married Jacqueline Nielsen in 1959 and together raised their family in Geyserville and Cloverdale. Robert worked at Italian Swiss Colony for 32 years, where he made many life long friends, in particular Adam “Ace” Ramos, and retired from Geyser Peak Winery in 1995. He was a member of the VFW post 9268 and a familiar face in the community. He was a loving and dutiful husband, father and friend. He will forever be remembered in our hearts. He was proceeded in death by his wife Jacqueline of 54 years. He was a wonderful caregiver to her for many years. Bob is survived by his brother Norman Snellgrove and family of Reno NV, his children, Elaine, Todd, Toby and Roberta and grandchildren, Justin and Jessica. Private family services will be held.
