A native of San Francisco, he graduated from Saint Ignatius
College Preparatory in 1959 and attended the University of San
Francisco. Bob was a Pacific Bell linesman and a police officer
before becoming a firefighter in Foster City. He retired in 1991
after 20 years of service, including time as a battalion chief and
winner of the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.
Bob spent his retirement as an electrical contractor, serving
communities in the Russian River area, and as a security officer at
the Bohemian Grove in Monte Rio. He was a skilled craftsman who
built his own home. He enjoyed meeting new friends all over the
world using his ham radio, he was an avid deer and duck hunter, a
terrific cook, an incredibly hard worker, and a man who was loved
and respected by his family. His life of service to mankind and to
his community was an example to all who knew him. He is survived by
his children, David, Renee, Eric, Nicholas, and Amanda; brother
Rick Halsing; sister Cathy and brother-in-law Bob Sarlatte; father
Robert E. Halsing, Sr; cousin Kirsten Havrehed, and many other
cousins, nieces, relations, and dear friends.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on on Friday, Jan. 14 at St.
Cecilia’s Church, 2555 17th Avenue in San Francisco. In lieu of
flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Red
Cross Disaster Relief Fund, P.O. Box 37243, Washington D.C.,
