This letter is written in support of the Dec. 20 letter from Hank Skewis regarding the proposal for a very large restaurant across from the Plaza.
Parking is a huge issue in downtown Healdsburg. The historic downtown buildings were designed in size and height to suit the area around the Plaza.Â
There are a range of established restaurants near the Plaza.Â
People race through the intersections around the Plaza attempting to nab the limited parking spots. Recently a police car has been stationed at one of the intersections to monitor the issue.
SHED on North Street is closing their open air dining area in part due to a lack of weekday foot traffic. Perhaps the ambitious restaurant and hotel proposal could be reworked to fit into SHED location.
There is a tipping point where small town charm is spoiled. Carmel-By-The-Sea and La Jolla are two examples of unchecked ambition.
The community participated in a survey where reportedly 82 percent of the population do not want this kind of development at this time. I encourage other community residents to express their opinions for or against this proposal.
