We need a new name
Not all of the many changes to our daily routines, work, school, forms of communication and personal frustrations can be blamed on the coronavirus pandemic. And, not all of the disruptions and changes are temporary. Not everything will be returning to “normal” after everyone has finally been vaccinated.
Country Roads: Get the lead out
For awhile most of the current news will, in some way, concern guns and ammunition. It is nearly impossible not to be consumed with the topic, and a divisive, depressing one it is.
Flashbacks from Healdsburg, Jan. 25
A world champion wrestler signed on to wrestle locally in Healdsburg, the environmental impact of geothermal energy development, and sending aid to a struggling post-War Europe in news from the Healdsburg Museum.
Wine Words: Wine Country gratitude
During this season of gratitude, toasts around the county include thanks for what was saved from the Kincade Fire.
Infrastructure weak
A not-so-funny thing happened last week that detoured our whole nation away from what was supposed to be “Infrastructure Week,” where the president was to unveil a set of plans to fix our ailing roads, rail, aviation, water pipes and electric grid.
The future of local news is digital — the future is now
I was on the newspaper team that created The Windsor Times in 1987. I could claim to be one of its parents. My parental instincts are kicking in pretty hard right now, as we must make forced decisions about this newspaper’s fate. If you are among those who believe it takes a village to raise a child, then you would agree the same goes for a community newspaper. Unfortunately, a virus, a changed local economy and the loss of too many newspaper readers to Facebook, Google and elsewhere has put this newspaper on unsustainable footing.
Market Report: An extended market
Hello market friends. I missed my deadline for the column this month, because I was so focused on making sure word got out that we were extending the dates for Saturday market. Yes, for those of you who haven’t kept up with the latest news (in Healdsburg, that is), it’s true. The Healdsburg Farmers’ Market is continuing into December; staying open through the 19th of the month. Not only will we be open three extra weeks, we’re extending the hours slightly as well: staying open until 12:30 p.m. in December, just to catch those of you longing for an extra half hour under the covers. We’ll still be in the West Plaza Parking Lot, where we are all year, so it’ll be easy to find your favorites.
