Vigil and workshop
Healdsburg residents are paying attention to what’s happening this week in Washington, DC and responding with protests, vigils and organizing.
This Thursday, Jan. 19, Raven Performing Arts Center volunteers will join members of the theater community across the nation to “shine a light for collective action and against challenging times ahead.” A social media post by organizers encourages community members to attend with flashlights, electric candles or smart phones. There will be a brief ceremony at 5:30 p.m. followed by a ceremonial lighting.
The Raven Performing Arts Theater is at 115 North Street.
At 6:30 p.m. Healdsburg organizers will gather at the Foss Creek Community Center (1557 Healdsburg Ave.) to discuss “the future of civil liberties and what we can do together to protect our communities.”
The event will feature a speaker from the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) and an attorney who specializes in immigration issues.
A press release from event organizers states: “Many of Donald Trump’s policy proposals would blatantly violate the Constitution and stand against the American values we hold dear. We will be discussing the policy proposals we can expect from the Trump administration and the 115th Congress, their potential impacts on our community and how to harness our collective power to continue to protect and advance civil liberties.”
The event is expected to last until 8:30 p.m.
