When it rains, it pours: The national accolades keep rolling in for Healdsburg’s newest and fanciest bakery, Quail & Condor.

Bakery owners Melissa Yanc and Sean McGaughey said demand skyrocketed after the New York Times listed their humble Healdsburg Avenue operation as one of America’s top 22 bakeries last month. In the weeks since the article dropped, Melissa and Sean told Sonoma Magazine that they’ve been selling out of everything by 10am or 11am each morning. Indeed, the line outside the bakery looks a little longer every time I drive by.

So imagine how long it’s gonna be now they’ve got a James Beard nom to contend with! The prestigious James Beard Awards, which celebrate excellent restaurants and chefs, released their list of semifinalists for 2025 last week, with Quail & Condor is in the running for best bakery. Congrats, team — and good luck with the fallout.
