Sale hosted by Café Lucia and Two Thirty-Five Luxury Suites
Café Lucia and Two Thirty-Five Luxury Suites are combining forces to raise money with a pop-up sale of Portuguese goodies for the Healdsburg Education Foundation (HEF). The one-day sale of Portuguese sweet bread and piri piri hot chocolate will take place at 235 Healdsburg Avenue on Thursday, February 9, from 3 to 5 p.m.
HEF supports vital programs for the approximately 1,680 Healdsburg public school students. It focuses on programs that generate strong learning outcomes, reduce the achievement gap and increase graduation rates. The Fincher family, who owns Café Lucia, and the Deas family, who owns Two Thirty-Five, have both experienced the value that HEF brings to the public schools in Healdsburg. Paul Deas and his three brothers all attended Healdsburg public schools, as did his own children.
“The Healdsburg schools have given my family an excellent education for generations and we were all lucky to participate in a wide range of enrichment activities while in school,” said Deas. “We want to work with HEF to make sure future Healdsburg generations have those same opportunities.”
Lucia Fincher’s daughters have also attended the Healdsburg schools. “Thanks to funding provided by the Healdsburg Education Foundation, our daughter started playing the flute as a fifth grader at Fitch Mountain Elementary and has continued on with the school band for the past seven years,” said Lucia Fincher, owner and founder of Café Lucia. “She loves music and now also plays with the Healdsburg Community Band. We would like to pay it forward.”
Joaquin Blanco-Pelucarte is the executive director of HEF and is encouraging supporters of HEF and the Healdsburg schools to attend the Portuguese Pop-Up. “The Healdsburg Education Foundation is honored to be in partnership with Cafe Lucia and The Fincher and Deas families in providing the means to deliver a 21st Century Education to all the students of the Healdsburg Unified Schools District,” he said. “In California, HUSD is recognized for delivering innovative educational methods. None of this could be possible if wasn’t for people like the Fincher and Deas families and the staff of Cafe Lucia. Come join us!”
Anyone unable to attend can always make a donation directly to HEF at healdsburgeducationfoundation.com/donate.
