The Northwest Regional Library in Coddingtown is announcing “Planet People Project,” a proactive program series about building resilient communities and ecosystems. Each month, the library will explore a different theme on the topic of sustainability: alternative economies, ecosystem restoration, food systems, grassroots community and more.
Local experts and leaders will give presentations that educate and inspire, and participants will choose from curated lists of readings, documentaries and websites about taking care of the planet and its people.
Participants will also take part in discussion circles, hosted by Librarian Jenny Rockwell, who has a passion for bringing people together to catalyze social change and green living. The program is suitable for any level of interest in sustainability.
Saturday, Feb. 16, 2 to 3 p.m. Alternative Economies: Sebastopol Time Bank will introduce a local reciprocal service network where everyone’s time has equal value.
Saturday, March 2, 2 to 3 p.m. Ecosystem Restoration: Occidental Arts & Ecology Center will present information about its Bring Back the Beaver Campaign.
Saturday, April 27, 2 to 3 p.m. Food Systems: Rancher Doniga Markegard will speak about grass-fed beef as regenerative agriculture.
Saturday, May 11, 2 to 3 p.m. Grassroots Community Panel: East Bay Permanent Real Estate Cooperative will discuss how people of color and allied communities can cooperatively purchase property. The Good School will discuss the Rojava movement of Kurdish self-determination in Syria.
