The Peace and Community Development Alliance (PACDA) of
Healdsburg presents an exclusive showing of the film “The
Game of Their Lives” on Saturday, March 18 at 3 p.m. at the Rialto
Cinemas Lakeside. The benefit is for youth soccer in the Federation
of Bosnia i Herzegovina (BiH). The film is the true story of the
1950 United States Men’s World Cup Team. When the United States was
invited to play in the World Cup in 1950 there was no team to
accept the invitation. Soccer was not yet popular in the United
States, except among recent immigrants. The story of the struggle
to put together a soccer team in short order from the various
ethnic communities in the United States is worth seeing. The story
is being repeated today among young women in BiH as they try to
bring together soccer players from various ethnic groups. Proceeds
from the screening will go to Budimo Aktivni (Let’s Be Active), the
organization that has been foremost in promoting women’s soccer and
the training of girls in BiH. General admission is $10; students
and seniors $6.
Advance tickets can be purchased at the Rialto, but no credit
cards or will call please. Doors open at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday,
