Play ball – Players in the Cal Ripken Baseball League ran the bases during the traditional parade of teams at Opening Day ceremonies in 2018. This year’s event takes place this Saturday, March 30 at Keiser Park, beginning at 9 a.m.

The Windsor Cal Ripken Baseball League will commemorate its 12th season this Saturday, March 30 with Opening Day ceremonies at Keiser Park. The festivities will kick off at 8:30 a.m. with team photos, followed by the parade of teams at 9 a.m. The Opening Day ceremony will feature the raising of the colors, singing of the National Anthem, and introduction of guests and board members.

Festivities will feature a variety of kid’s games and activities, including Jubilee Jumps, an obstacle course and bounce house. Wristbands will be available for $10 per day (or $1 per ticket) for all games. In addition, plenty of barbeque fare will be available from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The cost for lunch will be $5, with free lunch provided for all league players.

Among the highlights of the day will be a Home Run Derby (kids aged 9-12) held at 10 a.m. followed by the annual 12-year-old Showcase Game.
This season the league will consist of some 48 teams with a total roster of about 500 kids. Divisions will include Instructional (Rookie and Machine Pitch), Minors (A, AA and AAA) and Majors. Each division provides the necessary skills for players to find success for advancement to the next level.
