Crop report, airport rehab on the table

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors will meet Tuesday, Aug. 1 to kick off the last summer month of meetings. Items of importance include receiving the 2016 crop report and deciding whether to move forward with a rehabilitation project at the Sonoma County airport.

The meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. and can be viewed online at: http://sonomacounty.ca.gov/Board-of-Supervisors/Calendar/Board-of-Supervisors-Meeting-August-1-2017/.

Apron ramp rehabilitation

The county’s department of transportation and public works is asking for a county note worth $2 million to cover the expenses incurred while rehabilitating a commercial airline parking apron, which was completed last July. The county has already granted a note for the project, which was repaid in full upon completion of the rehabilitation. The requested funding, which is a renewal of the original July 2015 note, will help with cash flow until the Federal Aviation Administration reimburses the department for its work.

According to the county, the transportation and public works currently has $8,700,000 in outstanding notes in the county pool. Additionally, the airport anticipates requesting a $5 million treasury note by the end of the month.

2016 crop report

The department of agriculture will present its findings of the 2016 crop season in its annual report. The department has been compiling information and presenting a report every year since 1928. Highlights include total gross production value of $897,049,900, marking a 17 percent increase over the 2015 season. The increase is attributed primarily to an increase in wine grapes, according to the report. Total tonnage and price per ton were also both up, resulting in a 24 percent value increase, accounting for nearly $140 million. Apple yield was also up significantly, the report said.
