Lady of Guadalupe Church will be sending five teams of boys to this weekend’s North Bay Catholic Youth Organization championship games. This comes after some very exciting games in the semi-final round. Leading the pack will be Coach Josh Leo’s 6th grade Division 5 team as they beat St. Elizabeth 32-15 to remain undefeated at 11-0. They are slated to play St. Peter in the final.
Saturday’s semifinal games at Windsor Middle School saw OLG win three close games with two going into overtime. First it was Coach Jason Kraft’s 5th grade Division 1 team defeating St. Eugene 36-33 behind Colin Kraft’s game high nine points. Then it was Coach Enrique Vigil’s 6th grade Division 2 club needing overtime to hold off St. Eugene 40-37. Ben Geist led OLG with 10 points.
In the nightcap it was OLG’s Damien Escarcega’s buzzer beater for the 48-46 win in double overtime over St. Francis. Jackson Earl led Coach Dave Earl’s locals with 15 points. Other winners were Mark Stainer’s 5th grade Division 4 team and Coach Rene Meza’s 6th grade Division 3 squad.
