Overtime. That is what it took for Our Lady of Guadalupe’s fifth grade girls team to garner their first victory in North Bay Catholic Youth Organization play. Coach Spencer Simons’ girls used great defense to come away with the 19-17 win over Church of The Assumption of Tomales.
The local girls held an 11-8 halftime lead. COA tied it with a fourth quarter basket late in the period to tie the game at 17-17 when the horn sounded. Jayci Leo scored the only points to secure the win in overtime.
Leo led all scorers with 14 points. Harper Simons and Aubrey Taylor each contributed two points. Madelyn Dyche rounded out the OLG scorers with one point.
The NBCYO has reached the halfway point of the 10 game regular season. Playoffs start on Feb. 24. OLG CYO Basketball has 25 teams and 265 boys and girls participating. For more information please send an email to [email protected].
