Balanced scoring and good defense were the keys to victory for third grade boys in Our Lady of Guadalupe’s Catholic Youth Organization play. Coach Al McCormick’s boys defeated Sonoma’s St. Francis of Solano Church 15-12 in the Saturday morning game.
St. Francis jumped out to an 8-4 lead after the opening frame but the Windsor boys tied it at 8-8 by halftime. The lead switched hands a couple of times before Tyler Marten’s lay up and Jesse Swain’s free throw sealed the win for the local kids.
Martens, Kadin Jones and Nolan Karriker all had four points to lead the winners. Branden Anderson added two and Swain closed out the scoring with his fourth quarter free throw.
OLG CYO basketball is open to boys and girls, of all skill levels, in third through eighth grades. This year there are 25 teams and 265 boys and girls participating. The program strives to promote Christian values in sports. For more information send an email to
