Ethel May Schram – Taught music at Apple Blossom
School
Ethel Schram was born on July 30, 1937 in Homestead, PA to
Andrew and Ann Popsack. She died on March 21, 2009 at age 71, after
a 5-year battle with Melanoma at Hope Hospice in Cape Coral,
Florida. The date marked the 10-year anniversary of her mother’s
death.
Schram spent 50 years as a school teacher, choir director, real
estate agent, and property manager. She attended Fredonia State
University in New York, graduating with a BS in 1958 and completed
her Masters at the University of Nebraska in 1975.
In 1990 she and her husband moved to Sebastopol to live with her
daughter’s family.
She started teaching music at Apple Blossom Elementary School
where she was affectionately known to all as “Grandma Ethel.” In
1999, she and her husband, moved to Ft. Myers, FL to be near her
son’s family.
Schram loved music and she passed that along to all she met. Not
only was she active with children, but also in her community and
church. She was a member of PEO, an Eastern Star, as well as a Paul
Harris Fellow of Rotary International.
She leaves behind her husband of 49 years Ralph Schram; Daughter
Diana L. Wilson and her husband Edwin E. Wilson III; son Gary R.
Schram and his wife Robin Schram; grandchildren Alex and Danelle
Wilson, Nicholas and Shelby Schram; sister Ann Jean Mauldin and her
husband Lynn; sister-in-law Judith Popsack; and many friends and
family. She was preceded in death by her mother Ann in 1999, father
Andrew in 1995, and her brother David in 1994.
A Memorial Service will be held in her honor at 11 a.m. on April
4, at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 3595 Broadway, Ft. Myers, FL
33901. The service will be live online at www.church.smlcs.org. Donations

Viola G. Doughty – Great-great grandmother of
three
Viola Doughty died March 29 in Sebastopol at the age of 91. She
is survived by her children Diane Stephens, Everett (Joyce)
Doughty, and Steve (Juanita) Doughty. Grandmother of nine,
great-grandmother of 25, and great-great grandmother of three, she
is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Dr. Turner, Dr. Powers and the
staff at Palm Drive Hospital for the excellent care she received.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at
Parent-Sorenson Mortuary, 301 S. Main St., Sebastopol, on Friday,
April 3, at 11 a.m. Donations can be made in Doughty’s name to Palm

William Lewis Hazelwood Jr. – Champion rower,
basketball scholar
William Hazelwood, age 61, of Sebastopol, died in San Pancho,
Nayarit, Mexico on Friday, March 6, 2009 of a pulmonary embolism.
His wife of 12 years, Susan Harman, was with him during his last
hours. Hazelwood was born in Cambridge MA on February 19, 1948, the
only son of the late Emily and William Lewis Hazelwood, Sr.
Hazelwood attended Northeastern University where he rowed on a
winning crew team and Emerson College, Boston, MA on a basketball
scholarship, graduating in 1970. He appeared in the 1969-1970
edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and
Colleges. He was a Director/Producer for KPIX and KQED and was
Manager of Communications for Crown Zellerbach Corporation. He won
a Regional Emmy Award in 1973 as the Producer of All Together Now,
KPIX, an instructor in the Broadcasting and Electronic
Communication Arts Department at San Francisco State University and
founder of Sojourna Productions, a media and distance learning
company.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Harmon children Kena and Kai
Hazelwood; step-children Carly and Jonah Stuart, sisters, Pat Redd
of Melrose, MA, and Susan Jackson of Windsor, CT, brother-in-law
Larry Jackson and nieces, Ruth and Lydia.
His Memorial will be held on Saturday, April 18, at noon at the
Center for Spiritual Living, 2075 Occidental Road, Santa Rosa. The

Heidi Martin – Life celebration at Odd Fellows
Hall
Heidi Martin was born on Nov. 20, 1964 in Elgin, IL and died on
March 24, 2009 in Santa Rosa. She is survived by her Daughter
Nicole, sister Jennifer, and parents, Lana and Bill Hugh. A
celebration of her life will be held at Odd Fellows Lodge,
Sebastopol from 2 to 4 p.m., on April 5. All are welcome to attend.
“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving
safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in
broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and proclaiming,
‘Wow, what a ride.’”
Betty R. Norman – A native of San Francisco
Betty R. Norman went home to the Lord on March 28, 2009, at the
age of 85.
A native of San Francisco, Betty lived in San Carlos, San Mateo,
Kenwood, and the last nine years in Healdsburg. Loving wife of the
late John W. Ryan, and the late Edward H. Norman. Beloved mother of
Diane Benjamin (John) of Petaluma, Richard Ryan (Carol) of
Healdsburg, Dennis Ryan (Becca) of Greenbrae, and Daniel Ryan of
Tampa, Florida. Betty is also survived by seven grandchildren
Christine Benjamin, Chad Ryan, Jamie Ryan, Paul Foppiano, Gina
Foppiano, Kelly Ryan, Matt Ryan and one great-grandchild
Gianna Foppiano.
Friends are invited to a Funeral Mass on Thursday, April 2, 2009
at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, 208 Matheson St.,
Healdsburg. Inurnment will be private at Olivet Memorial Park,
Colma, California.
