Marjorie Jane Dogali
Marjorie Jane (McNeill) Dogali was born on May 10, 1920, in Arcata, California, to Mary Rose (Flower) and William Iles McNeill.
According to her family, “It was fitting that the heavens, filled with extraordinary shooting stars, paid tribute to receiving our beautiful mom and nana on the evening she passed away, Aug. 11, 2015, in Cloverdale.”
After graduating from Hopland High School, she worked as a civilian postal clerk, before joining the Women’s Army Corps on Oct.r 4, 1943. She was the beloved wife of George P. Dogali for 60 years before he died on July 20, 2005. George and Marjorie met in 1942, a year after George entered the U.S. Army.
They had a long distance courtship and on furlough were married May 17, 1945, at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Cloverdale.
Marjorie was the last surviving child of her parents’ four children. She was predeceased by her brother, Dorman McNeill, and sisters, Mina Brown and Irene Pruett.
She is survived by one daughter, Donna J. Buchignani, and two sons, Gary P. Dogali and George I. Dogali. She leaves seven grandchildren: Anthony, Deno, Gina, Mario, Dana, Paul and Gino. Two great-grandchildren survive her: Henry and Fern.
Marjorie was the charter president of the Ladies Auxiliary to Ray Zittleman Post #9268, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Additionally, she belonged to Druids, and to WIMSA (Women In The Military Service Association).
A Funeral Mass for Dogali of Pine Mountain, will be held on Monday, Aug. 24, at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Cloverdale. The Mass will begin at 11 a.m. (visitation 10 a.m.) Officiating will be Father Sean Rogers and Deacon Harry Martin.
Memorial contributions in her memory would be appreciatively received by the Willow Creek-China Flat Museum, P.O. Box 102, Willow Creek, CA 95573.
Marie Vandagriff
Marie Vandagriff of Cloverdale died peacefully on Aug. 4, 2015, after a lengthy battle with dementia. Marie was born on June 14, 1924 in Texas, the daughter of Norman and Winney Olney. She was a resident of Cloverdale since 1954. Marie worked most of her life as a medical secretary and bookkeeper. She was very active in the Cloverdale Senior Center, and served on the Cloverdale City Council as well as the Sonoma County Grand Jury.
She enjoyed her yearly trips to Mazatlan, Mexico with family and friends, up until the time she was no longer able to travel. She was also a longtime member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Cloverdale
Marie was predeceased by her husband, Billy Vandagriff, in 1996. She is survived by her daughter, Valerie Hoffert (Frank), her son Kirk Vandagriff (Diane), five grandchildren; Lauren Burris (Brian), Kali Hoffert, Kyle Vandagriff, Derick Vandagriff and Brittany Vandagriff and two great-grandchildren, Cooper Burris and Asher Burris. Marie was a very loving mother, grandmother and friend.
She will be greatly missed by many. The family wishes to thank the staff at Cloverdale Healthcare for taking such good care of her these past few years.
Services will be held at good Shepherd Episcopal Church on Aug. 29, 2015 at 11 a.m.
Merry Montoya
Merry Montoya, born in Santa Rosa on Jan. 28, 1958 nd died on Aug. 12, 2015 in Cloverdale, where she had lived since she was 12. “She was a one-of-a-kind person,” said her sister, Debbie Gite. “Once you met Merry, you never forgot her. She was a good person.”
Montoya is survived by her daughter, Maygen, 15. An account will be set up at a future time where donations can be made to help pay for a celebration of Merry’s life and for Maygen’s education.
