Raleigh Claude Lyda
Raleigh C. “Bud” Lyda, 91, a resident of the Forest Grove community, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015 at the Brookdale Retirement Community in Forest Grove. A Celebration of Life Service was held on Tuesday, Dec. 29 at the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Forest Grove. Concluding rites and interment followed at the Forest View Cemetery in Forest Grove.
Bud was born Dec. 19, 1924 in Gales Creek, Oregon, the son of the late Elmer Lyda and Katherine (Kessler) Lyda. He was raised in the Gales Creek community and attended Lyda School through the seventh grade. He later attended Forest Grove High School, a graduate of the Class of 1942. He was Veteran of World War II, having joined the United States Army in 1944 at Fort Lewis Washington. Bud served for two years until receiving his honorable discharge in 1946.
Bud was united in marriage to Cherie Woodward on May 20, 1951 in the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Forest Grove. They celebrated their 64th anniversary in May. Following their marriage they resided in Gales Creek, until 1957, when they moved to Cloverdale, where they lived for 57 years until 2014 when they returned to the Forest Grove community.
Bud owned and operated Lyda Logging and Construction Company for 60 years. He was a longtime member of the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Forest Grove, where he was confirmed as a child. While living in Cloverdale, they were members of the Grace Lutheran Church. Among his special interests he loved animals. While in high school he had a pet bull, named “Red Duke.” He enjoyed caring for his horses and working in the woods with his logging business.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Katherine Lyda; his two brothers, William Lyda and Elmer Lyda, Jr.; his two sisters, Eula Vail and Iola Van Loo; his son, Gevan Lyda in 1972 and his daughter Raleign Lyda in 1976. Survivors include his wife, Cherie Lyda, of Forest Grove; his daughter, Valerie Lyda, of Cloverdale; his son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Cheri Lyda, of Gales Creek, Oregon and his two sisters and a brother-in-law, Barbara Erland, of Portland, Oregon and Alice and Dave Hartshorn, of Seattle, Washington.
Also surviving are his five grandchildren and their spouses, Katherine Lyda, of Gales Creek, Oregon; Judy Martin, of Mt. View, California; Rebecca and Bill Clark, of Lafayette, California; Jessica Pitel, of Fair Oaks, California and Chanelle Baer, of Corvallis, Oregon; his five great-grandchildren, Bailey, Mitch, Drew and Duncan and Aubrey and many nieces and nephews.

Jesse House
Jesse House died on Dec. 22, 2015, just shy of his 80th birthday. Born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, he spent most of his life in Sonoma County, including 38 years in Healdsburg and 35 years in Santa Rosa. He is predeceased by his parents Alice and Jesse Lee House and siblings Lois Garrison, Ruth Glenn and James House. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Dolores House of Santa Rosa; his son, Jesse “Paul” House, Jr., of Cloverdale; and his daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Steve Baker of Healdsburg. Also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Carol House of Cloverdale and sister, Lin Cadd, of Santa Rosa. Additionally survived by his extended family of talented musicians, numerous friends, great neighbors, cousins, nieces, and nephews – in particular his special nephew and good buddy, Jim House of Dayton, NV. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He also enjoyed working various jobs throughout his career, including Idaco Lumber in Healdsburg, and was especially proud of being self employed for more than 30 years in the trucking business as Jesse House Trucking. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his family, being on a boat wherever the fish were biting, lounging at his Eagle Lake property, annual crabbing treks to Oregon, as well as campouts and jam sessions playing his guitar and singing with great pals.
Services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Fred Young Funeral Home, 428 North Cloverdale Blvd., Cloverdale. Interment will be private at Oak Mound Cemetery, Healdsburg.
