For the past few years the many North Coast Section teams have produced recurring champions and perennial bottom-dwellers. Now the section commissioners have restructured the leagues, producing four divisions of the renamed Redwood Empire Conference. Among them is the Mountain League, where Healdsburg finds itself this year.

Other Mountain schools include Sonoma Valley and Piner in Sonoma County, with Terra Linda, Novato, San Rafael and Archie Williams (San Anselmo) in Marin County.

Other new Redwood Empire League divisions include the Adobe, Valley and Bay divisions. But the Greyhounds won’t meet this year’s Mountain division rivals for another month.

Following Friday’s game against non-division Cloverdale, they play three more non-division games—St. Helena (Sept. 6), Berean Christian (Sept. 14) and Montgomery (Sept. 20)—before their first Mountain opponent, at home against San Rafael on Sept. 27.

The next five games are all Mountain Division matchups, including against Novato (Oct. 4), Piner (Oct. 11), Terra Linda (Oct. 18) and Archie Williams (Nov. 1).

The season’s final game is Homecoming, Nov. 8, against the Sonoma Valley Dragons. Varsity game time is 7pm, under Friday night lights.
