Many schools in the north and west sections of Sonoma County are likely reopen for students and classes tomorrow  and Wednesday, as long as the fire and air quality conditions don’t get worse.
Almost all schools in the 40-district county have been closed for five days due to the firestorm that has destroyed hundreds of homes and prompted evacuation of 20,000 residents.
In the north county, the Healdsburg school district will reopen to students on Tuesday, but the Windsor and Cloverdale schools have tentatively set Wednesday to reopen, depending upon conditions. The Geyserville school district will remain closed all week.
The West Sonoma County Union High School District announced that classes at Analy, El Molino and Laguna high schools will resume on Tuesday.
Likewise, the Twin Hills Union School District intends to have students return to Apple Blossom, Orchard View, Sun Ridge and Twin Hills Middle schools on Tuesday.  Also scheduled to reopen in the west county on Tuesday are the Forestville, Gravenstein, Guerneville, Harmony, Sebastopol Union, Sebastopol Independent Charter and Reach.
Since students at Santa Rosa schools were heavily affected by the fire, officials decided they would be closed all week beginning Oct. 16 and that decisions about reopening would be made later.
Schools throughout Sonoma County were also deciding whether to proceed with social and athletic events that could be affected by air quality or disruptions in the lives of staff, parents and students.
Analy officials said the annual homecoming game and dance has been postponed and the Scholastic Aptitude Tests scheduled for this weekend will be moved to a later date. In addition, deadline for deposits on Advanced Placement tests has been extended to Oct. 31.
