Mildred Brackett was born February 7, 1909 in Geyserville and
joined her husband in the Abha Kingdom on June 6, 2007 at the
advanced age of 98 in Lancaster, CA. She brought her family to
Lancaster in 1959 and owned and operated the Havenhurst Apartments
on Lancaster Boulevard until after the passing of her husband in
1974. She was also a substitute teacher for the Antelope Valley
High School District, taught piano lessons, and worked at the
Osheim’s Hardware store on Sierra Highway. Mildred was a lifetime
believer in the Baha’l World Faith and helped to establish the
Local Spiritual Assemblies of the Baha’ls of Antelope Valley and
Lancaster. She served on the Local Spiritual Assembly for nearly 50
years, even up to her passing. She was an active member and officer
of many community organizations including the Lancaster Beautiful
Women’s Club, American Association of University Women, Retired
Teachers, Organ Club, and Kern-AV Historical Society. She enjoyed
attending the Oldtimer’s reunion every year. She was an avid bridge
player, continuing to play even in her nineties. She also enjoyed
traveling in her motor home until a heart attack and broken hip
slowed her down. She was born and raised in Geyserville, CA and
received a bachelor’s degree in music from the College of the
Pacific in Stockton, CA. She married Raymond Brackett in
Geyserville in 1937, where she was active in the Baha’l Faith and
civic organizations. In 1949, she moved her family to Mountain
View, purchasing the Mountain View Motel located across he Bayshore
Highway form the Moffett Field Naval Air Station. In 1954, the
family moved to Watsonville, purchasing the East Lake Motel. In
1958, the family moved for a short time to Woodlake to operate a
peach orchard before settling in Lancaster in 1959. Mildred was
preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Raymond, and parents
Ernest and Clara Meyer. She is survived by sons Gregory (Gerlyn)
Brackett, William Brackett and daughter Joanna DiGiovanna,
grandchildren Cassandra Brackett, Sarah DiGiovanna Eaton, and
Marcus DiGiovanna, and great-grandchildren Jaryn Eaton and Haydon
Eaton. She is also survived by cousins, Ed and Johanna Vononi and
family of Geyserville, Les Meyer of Petaluma, Bob Meyer of
Healdsburg, and Melvin Tate and family on Santa Maria. Her family
and friends will miss her positive attitude, her contributions and
her zest for life. Flowers and cards may be sent to Joshua Memorial
Park, 808 E. Lancaster Blvd Lancaster, CA 93535, where the services
and interment were held June 10, 2007 at 10 a.m.
