Mayor meeting at the high school — Student journalists from the Hounds Bark at Healdsburg High School arranged a Q&A and discussion meeting with Healdsburg Mayor David Hagele on Feb. 27. Hounds Bark editor-in-chief Emma Tremont said she wanted to give students a chance to find out what’s happening around town and what Hagele’s role is as mayor.
Hagele spoke of city finance, park development, housing and tourism to a crowd of around 30 interested students.
The most popular topic students asked about was downtown parking and the new two-hour limit around the Plaza. Students expressed concern about having to move their cars during work due to the limit. Hagele added that the city has added several un-timed parking spots at the city hall lot and in the lot near where the farmers market is held.
Students also had a concern that there is missing link of getting city information, city projects and other city news to people their age.
While city updates and news is often posted on the city’s Facebook page, many students added that they hardly used Facebook anymore.
Tremont suggested having the city manager’s update be posted on the school’s bulletin for students to see.
