Former Sebastopol resident Mary Eleanor Sutherland Sexton, 88,
died on Dec. 19. A native of Oakland, she was the daughter of
“Commodore and Lady,” the late David Robert and Olive Beegle
Sutherland. The family moved to Sebastopol when Mary was a toddler.
She attended Twin Hills Schools, was a graduate of Analy, class of
1933. She also graduated from Sweet’s Business College. She was a
past president of Business and Professional Women, Sebastopol
Chapter. She worked for Speas for 10 years. She was a resident of
Mill Valley for 45 years. She retired from North West Pacific
Railroad.She was preceded in death by her sisters, Madge Abernathy
and Violet Mackie. She was the wife of the late Arthur Blitz
Sexton. She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth A. Sexton.
She is survived by her children, Marilyn Salata, Howard Sexton and
Bonnie Barnes. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jillan
Gray, Rachel Tucker, Robert Hall, Jocelyn Hall, Kenny, William and
Megan Sexton, Scott Barnes, Jr. and Jessica Barnes. She was
preceded in death by her grandson, Gilbert A. Hall. Mrs. Sexton is
also survived by five great-grandchildren.
