Martin Randen, 87, died at a local hospital on October 20, 2017. He was born August 26, 1930 in Pleasant Ridge, South Dakota, the twin son of Mathias and Anette Randen. The family moved to Oregon in 1950 and Martin joined the Air Force in 1951, serving in Korea. In 1954, he married Nellie Devenport, and after his discharge, they settled in Winslow, Arizona where he worked on the railroad.
After working in the lumber industry in Oregon and Garberville, Martin and Nellie moved to Cloverdale in 1966, where “Marty” worked in the local lumber yards. Starting in 1972, he worked as a fork lift driver for Redwood Empire Lumber Company for the next 23 years.
Martin was a member of Cloverdale VFW Post #9268 and Grace Lutheran Church. He loved golf, fishing, and trips in his motor home.
He is predeceased by his twin, Melvin, four other brothers, and three sisters; he is survived by Nellie, his wife of 63 years; his sister Myrtie, of Hettinger, North Dakota, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 18 at Grace Lutheran Church, 890 N. Cloverdale Blvd. The family requests memorials to Grace Lutheran Church.
