The Martin Luther King, Jr. annual birthday celebration takes
place on Sunday, Jan. 16 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Luther Burbank
Center in Santa Rosa. The theme of this year’s event is, “It’s not
just a dream, we must make it real!” The free event will include a
Civil Rights film, Rondella Eben Ecar, Copper Wimmin, Terrance
Richmond, aka Zealous, The Celebration Mass Choir, middle school
and high school oratories, and a special children’s program. For

Doris Kearns Goodwin at LBC
Noted historian, former presidential assistant and Pulitzer
Prize-winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin will speak at the Luther
Burbank Center for the Arts, on Jan. 12 at 8 p.m., just a week
before the inauguration of President George W. Bush. Goodwin is a
former assistant to President Lyndon B. Johnson and one of the most
well-known historians of the day. She is currently working on a
monumental biography of Abraham Lincoln and has written books about
Lyndon Johnson and the Fitzgeralds and Kennedys.
