A Geyserville man was convicted of vehicular manslaughter with
gross
negligence on Nov. 19 just weeks after he killed a woman while
driving
intoxicated on the wrong side of Highway 101. Jose Botello-Soto,
26, had a
blood alcohol content of 0.25 percent—more than three times the
legal
limit—when he drove past a wrong way sign on Old Redwood Highway
and headed
north on the southbound lanes of Highway 101 through
Healdsburg.
Moments later he hit Crystal Carrillo-Martinez, 26, head on. She
was
pronounced dead at the scene. The x-rax technician at Redwood
Orthopedic was
heading to a Halloween party in Santa Rosa when she was hit by
Botello-Soto.
“Our community has seen enough innocent victims killed by the
reckless
actions of impaired drivers,” said Sonoma County District
Attorney Stephan
Passalacqua. “The District Attorney’s office stands beside the
grieving
families left behind by these senseless and preventable acts of
violence and
we will vigorously seek the maximum term of imprisonment in this
case.”
Botello-Soto faces a maximum of 10 years in prison. He’s
expected to be
sentenced on January 19.
