Hang around a bit
If you drive in Healdsburg, you’ve no doubt noticed that traffic is more challenging this summer.
Visitors are unfamiliar with our quaint, historic streets and Memorial Bridge is closed, which funnels all southbound traffic through downtown.
Healdsburg Fire Marshall Linda Collister reminded me that traffic leaving town after the July 4 fireworks show can be a bear, and will be even more bearish with the bridge closed for renovation. “Take a little time and relax and don’t try to leave town all at once,” advises Linda.

He’s still the champ. Kurt Garritson was the men’s club champion at Tayman Park last year, but he didn’t think he would be able to defend his title, since he had a full hip replacement last December. Kurt hung in there and beat Junior Tamayo after 33 consecutive holes at Tayman Park, a true test of that new hip.

A serious stroke is a life-altering experience and Christine Webster wants you to know that most strokes are preventable.
A stroke survivor herself, Christine is an advocate for prevention and a volunteer with Strike Our Stroke, a national stroke awareness and prevention effort that has sponsors and supporters throughout major and minor league baseball.
Christine enlisted Healdsburg District Hospital, the Healdsburg Stroke Club and the Healdssburg Prune Packers baseball team to put on a Strike Out Stroke event at a Prune Packer game on Saturday, July 11.
Come on out to Recreation Park that night to watch the Packers beat the Sacramento Legends and to learn more about stroke prevention. Christine is inviting all local stroke survivors to join her on the mound to throw out the first pitch.
“I honestly believe that I wouldn’t have survived the aftermath of my stoke without the open arms and helping hands of the Healdsburg community,” Christine said.
If you want to learn more, arrive at Rec Park at 5:45 p.m. that evening or contact ch*******************@gm***.com.

They’re everywhere. The folks at Jimtown Store reported this week that the Google Cam Car, which videos street and road views for its online mapping program, was seen on Pine Flat Road recently.

Can a window start a fire? The cause of the fire on Robinson Court last Sunday is listed as “undetermined” because there were too many candidates for its ignition.
In addition to a pile of rags that had been used to wipe off a deck, there was a bag with the contractor’s battery-operated tools in the vicinity – both are potential sources of spontaneous combustion.
What surprised me was to learn that a nearby window was also a candidate for combustion.
Did you burn ants with a magnifying glass when you were a kid? That principle still applies. The sun shining through a certain type of glass, at a certain agle, has been known to bubble paint and start fires.
Be careful during this fire season. It’s going to be long and crazy.
