Louis E. Sans died at his Rohnert Park home on March 7, 2007. He
was 87. Born in San Francisco on February 25, 1920, he graduated
from Balboa High School in 1938. Two years later, he joined the
Navy and was assigned to the USS Dale at the time of the attack on
Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Discharged in 1946, Sans joined
the fire department, but the pace was too slow for his energy so he
turned to sales. At one time he owned a beauty parlor and a flower
shop in Sebastopol. He worked for the City of Santa Rosa from 1999
to the day of his death. In 1951, he married Audrey Magnusson. When
she died in 1959, he raised their three children and her two
daughters alone.
In 1975 he married Helen Williams, who died in 2001. He was an
active member of Chapter 23 of the Pearl Harbor Survivors
Association and served as its president and vice president.
He is survived by his children Donna Ferrari, Carole Arial,
Kathleen Dodson, Karin Crowhurst and Louis Sans: grandchildren Lisa
Lomeli, Billy Arial, Jennifer, Laura and Adam Crowhurst, Amy
Oliver, Amanda and Megan Dodson, and four great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2007 at
the Santa Rosa Veterans Memorial Building.
