Sonoma West Publishers wins big at California newspaper awards

Sonoma West Publishers won several awards from the California News Publishers Association for 2019. Sonoma West Publishers swept the Special Sections category, winning first, second, third and fourth place. These special sections appeared in all four Sonoma West Publishers papers including Sonoma West Times & News, The Healdsburg Tribune, The Windsor Times and the Cloverdale Reveille.

Winter wonderland — An uncharacteristic blanket of snow hugged the eastern hills on Feb.5 as an arctic weather system dropped snow levels to a few hundred feet. The Geysers, Mount St. Helena and other peaks gleamed white in the morning sun as freezing temperatures descended on the area.

Controversy exploded last week when local school districts decided to close, then open, and in a few cases, close again as smoke from the Camp Fire in Butte County reached Sonoma County. Parents took to social media to complain, and districts and the county’s superintendent scrambled to calm fears and frustrations.

FirstGen college counseling students accepted to prestigious summer programs

FirstGen College Counseling announced last week that 29 of 32 participating students at Healdsburg High School have been accepted to academic residential summer programs in California and beyond. The remaining students are still eligible for summer programs, pending later acceptance dates.
