Windsor PD continues work on use-of-force and community policing

At a town council meeting on Oct. 7, Windsor’s Chief of Police Ruben Martinez gave a presentation on use-of-force and related issues to the town council. The presentation was the second of its kind and was the result of a previous presentation on July 1, which triggered interest in the Brother’s Keeper Pledge and applying it going forward.

Peaceful Protest

Enough—On June 1 and 2, protesters gathered on the Town Green between 3 and 6 p.m. to demand equity and action in the wake of the death of George Floyd, a black man, at the hands of white police officers. While social media posts and activity in Santa Rosa prompted some local fears, the group that gathered on the Green was peaceful and supportive, chanting and inciting passing cars to honk in support. County supes pass eviction defense ordinance

In a unanimous vote Tuesday afternoon, March 24, the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors approved an urgency ordinance that suspends the eviction of tenants for failing to pay rent. The ordinance applies to cases in which a tenant’s failure to pay rent is a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in that they’ve lost income or have had to pay for substantial medical needs as a result of the outbreak.

Look out for coronavirus-related scams

A Healdsburg city manager office update issued by the city on March 27 offered a warning to residents on the emergence of COVID-19-related scams and fraudulent calls and emails, many offering coronavirus cures, test kits and fraudulent cleaning services.

School board reviews district and LCAP budgets

At the June 12 Healdsburg Unified District School Board meeting district staff went over the preliminary budget for the LCAP (Local Control and Accountability Plan) and budget impacts and outlooks for the district’s overall 2019-20 budget. Public hearings were held for the two items; however, there were no comments from the public.

Healdsburg 18-year-old sentenced after high-speed chase

An 18-year-old Healdsburg man was sentenced to one year in county jail and three years’ probation after a high speed chase in June led to the discovery of illegal drugs, weapons and a large stash of cash.
